What is the vignette tax in the Republic of Moldova?

The vignette is a tax for the use of roads in the Republic of Moldova by vehicles, with or without trailers, which are unregistered in the country. It provides confirmation of payment valid for a specific period.

Who are required to pay the vignette tax?

The subjects of taxation are individuals and legal entities owning vehicles unregistered in Moldova that enter or transit the country. Exemptions include resident individuals/legal entities with vehicles under import customs, vehicles with tax-exempt permits, and diplomatic vehicles.

What vehicles are exempt from the vignette tax?

Vehicles exempt from taxation include those belonging to foreign military forces under international treaties, and vehicles used by international intervention teams in exceptional situations.

When does the vignette validity start?

The vignette validity starts at 00:00 am of the requested calendar day or at the time of payment confirmation if the start date is the current day. It expires at midnight of the last calendar day for which it was paid.

Enter the vehicle registration number without any dashes, hyphens, or spaces when filling out the vignette form.

Failure to pay the vignette can result in fines between 45 and 180 contravention units (2250 to 9000 lei) and does not absolve the offender from the obligation to pay the tax for all periods.

Payments made between 23:45 and 00:01 may be blocked due to system limitations. In such cases, funds are automatically refunded to the payer’s card.

What should I do if vignette services are unavailable during maintenance?

Vignette registration and payment services may be unavailable during scheduled maintenance, such as on June 5, 2024, between 9:00 - 10:00 a.m., due to system updates. Users are advised to plan payments accordingly to avoid inconvenience.

What does completing the vignette form signify?

By completing the vignette form, users consent to the processing and storage of their personal data in accordance with Law no. 133 of 08.07.2011 regarding personal data protection. This consent is necessary for generating and paying for the vignette.

Why should online vignette payments be avoided at certain times?
